A Designed Calibration Approach for the Measurement-While-Drilling Instrument

چکیده

The Measurement-While-Drilling (MWD) system, composed of a tri-axial magnetometer and accelerometer, is widely used in the Horizontal Directional Drilling machine coal mines. This system can provide attitude information each measuring point borehole, which will eventually allow trajectory borehole to be drawn. information, however, showed low-level accuracy, due sensor’s imperfection mounting errors. accuracy worsened when low-cost sensors were employed, as they had higher random noise. Therefore, an exploration ways eliminate sensor tolerance well suppress noise needed. In this paper, feasible calibration approach was designed address these issues. new combined three foundational algorithms, including ellipsoidal fitting method, planar inner product invariance method. traditional method optimized by using recursive least square criterion omitting steps sample data acquisition, respectively. addition, suppression involved our improve accuracy. numerical simulation results that number sampling points decreased significantly, but azimuthal angle pitch fully met engineering requirements. experimental error reduced less than 0.5°, azimuth also 2.5°. It should noted could implemented without help other expensive auxiliary equipment.

Auto-Calibration and Fault Detection and Isolation of Skewed Redundant Accelerometers in Measurement While Drilling Systems

The present study designed skewed redundant accelerometers for a Measurement While Drilling (MWD) tool and executed auto-calibration, fault diagnosis and isolation of accelerometers in this tool. The optimal structure includes four accelerometers was selected and designed precisely in accordance with the physical shape of the existing MWD tool. A new four-accelerometer structure was designed, i...

A Long-Term Performance Enhancement Method for FOG-Based Measurement While Drilling

In the oil industry, the measurement-while-drilling (MWD) systems are usually used to provide the real-time position and orientation of the bottom hole assembly (BHA) during drilling. However, the present MWD systems based on magnetic surveying technology can barely ensure good performance because of magnetic interference phenomena. In this paper, a MWD surveying system based on a fiber optic g...

Application of Fast Dynamic Allan Variance for the Characterization of FOGs-Based Measurement While Drilling

The stability of a fiber optic gyroscope (FOG) in measurement while drilling (MWD) could vary with time because of changing temperature, high vibration, and sudden power failure. The dynamic Allan variance (DAVAR) is a sliding version of the Allan variance. It is a practical tool that could represent the non-stationary behavior of the gyroscope signal. Since the normal DAVAR takes too long to d...

Thermal Response Test While Drilling

Knowledge of the ground thermal conductivity is of importance when designing borehole heat exchanger (BHE) systems. As thermal conductivity for any specific rock type varies due to its mineral content, porosity, pore fluid and anisotropy, it is preferable determined in-situ. Choudhary (1976) suggested a method for determining the thermal conductivity which analysed the heat transfer during the ...
